Let us simplify what may otherwise seem complicated.

We realize you and your loved ones are more than a label. Using common diagnostic terms can aid understanding and help guide treatment solutions.

Nightmares are vivid and disturbing dreams that awake you from sleep. They may often send your body into fight or flight mode, causing sweating, fear, or increased heart rate. People of all ages can experience nightmares. People who experience nightmares often dream about things such as not being able to escape danger, falling, or being chased.

People can have nightmares for many reasons; often they are spontaneous. However, nightmares can be caused by:

    • Stress
    • Excessive worry
    • Trauma
    • Drugs or chemicals (illicit and prescribed)
    • Health and eating behaviors
    • Sleep deprivation
    • Other sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome

Effects of nightmares can cause both adults and children distress. Those who experience nightmares may also experience:

    • Lack of awareness
    • Increased fatigue
    • Sleep disturbance
    • Increased anxiety

Nightmares are often caused by underlying effects. At Serin Center, we can help you pinpoint the cause of your nightmares and correct them using EMDR, talk-therapy or neurofeedback. Give us a call today to talk to someone who can help you.
